Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways

This course, from the Foundation Skills Training Package, is being delivered at various sites across Queensland.

It can be delivered in:

  • high schools;
  • in schools with components delivered at an Outdoor or Environmental Education Centre; or,
  • at an Outdoor or Environmental Education Centre.

Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways is targeted at Indigenous students with the aim of increasing employment opportunities by attaining a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE), learning in real world contexts, enriching cultural knowledge and connecting to community.

Suitable for students in Years 10 -12, this course contributes 4 points towards their QCE and satisfies the QCE literacy and numeracy requirements.

The course can be completed in 6 months to 1 year and covers:

  • Language, literacy and numeracy skills in the workplace
  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Australian Indigenous cultural knowledge
  • Employability skills and learning pathways

If the course is facilitated by an Outdoor Education Centre, three Outdoor Recreation competencies can be included to give students experience in working in the outdoors.

Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management

Face2Face Content: This course is being delivered by Environmental Education Centres in South East Queensland. It can be delivered one day per week or in blocks of learning.

Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management is targeted at Indigenous students and aims to increase employment opportunities by engaging students in hands-on work in the outdoors. Students build practicals for the workplace skills while operating machinery, planting trees and observing animals.

The course can be completed in 6 months to 1 year and covers:

  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Australian Indigenous knowledge of country
  • Identification of animals and plants
  • Revegetating and maintaining natural and cultural places

Suitable for students in Years 10 -12, this course contributes 4 points towards their QCE.

Cert III in Indigenous Land Management

FACE 2 FACE

This course may be delivered by Environmental Education Centres across Queensland. It can be delivered one day per week or in blocks of learning over 1 – 2 years.

Certificate III in Indigenous Land Management is targeted at Indigenous students and provides them with a range of practical conservation and land management skills, knowledge of traditional Indigenous customs and practices, and the opportunity to explore employment options or further study in this field.

The course covers:

  • Occupational Health and Safety and emergency procedures
  • Australian Indigenous knowledge of country
  • Environmentally sustainable work practices
  • Safe operation of machinery and equipment
  • Revegetating and maintaining natural and cultural sites
  • Learning pathways and careers in the area of conservation and land management

Suitable for students in the senior years, this course contributes 8 points towards their QCE.
